I am very lucky to have been asked to be Patron of Reading at Queen's Hill School in Norwich. It is a great honour and I am very excited at the prospect of promoting reading in the coming year.
About Queen's Hill Primary School The school is located in Costessey, about 5 miles from Norwich. It is the largest primary school in Norfolk and when fully occupied will educate up to 630 pupils. It has two wonderfully equipped libraries with a full-time school librarian. A passion for reading Sometimes, children fall out of love with reading and what they once enjoyed can become a chore. By introducing various exciting activities, I will be working with the school's dedicated staff to put back the passion and reintroduce the extraordinary magical adventures reading provides. |

25th February 2020 - Introductions
So this afternoon I spent some time with Year 4 , talking to them about the importance of reading and they had a chance to ask me some questions about being an author.
Then I was whisked off to the hall to witness some avid readers collecting their silver awards for reading from Headteacher Penny Sheppard and the two school dogs, Molly and Jasper.
The afternoon was finished off with me introducing myself to staff
in the staff meeting and saying a little about what I would hope to do as Patron of Reading.

28th February 2020 - Reading Curriculum Day
Wow! What an amazing day! The activity carousel was incredible. So many fantastic activities for the children to take part in including illustrating graphic novels and a book cafe. My activity was Active Storytelling and took place in the KS2 library. I had taped a storyline to the floor, full of twists and turns just as a story would have. A hero/heroine was chosen to save the sick villagers who were suffering from a spell by the wicked witch. We needed an exciting story so I introduced many obstacles such as a raging river (sheets of voile), an enchanted forest (ribbons as leaves), a field of sleeping wild animals (animal masks) and even some haughty riddle-telling princes/princesses (crowns) - all roles taken by the children. We all cheered the hero/heroine on to fetch the magic water from the magic well. And I got to have lunch with a wonderful group of enthusiastic readers. A great day!

28th February - Patron of Reading Board
And now I have my very own Patron of Reading Board! Here the children can find out more about me as a person and also about my writing. It also serves to remind them of who I am and what I do at the school.
