Authors are asked many kinds of questions. Most of them are about
writing but some are more personal!

Here, Debra J Edwards answers some of the questions put to her
since the publication of her first novel, Aggie Lichen; Pilp Collector, in July 2005.

How long did it take you to write the novel?
The first draft took around five months to write but lots of other drafts followed.

Do you write at certain times of the day?
Having a set time is difficult as I still work as a teacher full time. I find that I write better in the evenings but very often I will get up at 5am to follow up an idea.

Did you always want to be a writer?
No, I always wanted to be a window dresser. I wanted to dress the windows at Selfridges! I never pursued It though. I went into banking, completely different!

Where do you get your ideas from?
I’ve always liked the idea of fairies being in the human world. My mother always used to say that the fairies must have been, when I used to tidy up for her as a little girl. It was a little different with tooth fairies. I used to hear from children how they placed their teeth under pillows and used to wake up and find money but no tooth. Where did they think the
tooth had gone? What did the tooth fairy do with the tooth? That’s when I started putting the pilp collector ideas together and invented the world of Mirvellon.
